Web Sling Technical Committee Report

by Ralph Abato, Chairman
WSTDA Web Sling Technical Committee

Current activities of the Web Sling Technical Committee include the formation of an ad hoc subcommittee to define the scope of a proposed new recommended standard for vehicle recovery straps. The subcommittee is working to define the products that will be covered in such a standard and to discover existing authoritative sources including manufacturers of recovery devices.

The Committee is also examining the issue of cut and abrasion protection for sling webbing and seeking ways to objectively test to develop recommendations for out-of-service conditions.

Having recently published a revision to WS-1, the Recommended Standard for Web Slings, the Technical Committee is working with the Legal Resource Committee to review recommendations made by an ergonomics and “human factors” expert for potential updates to the WSTDA Web Sling Warning Label and the WSTDA Web Sling Safety Bulletin.

The Committee will hold both a working session and an open forum discussion session during the 2016 Fall Meeting in Chicago. All attendees are invited to recommend topics for the Web Sling discussion forum by submitting their ideas in an online survey found here.
