Load Securement Technical Committee Report

by Rob Snyder, Chairman
WSTDA Load Securement Technical Committee

The Load Securement Technical Committee recently finalized a revision draft of WSTDA T-6, the Recommended Standard for Load Binders Used with Chain Tie Downs, which was approved by the Board and will soon be published. The Committee has also completed recommended revisions to T-4, the Recommended Standard Specification for Synthetic Webbing Used For Tie Downs and following Board approval will soon be posted for public comment prior to finalization.

The Committee is currently working on revisions to WSTDA T-2, the operating, use and inspection manual for tie downs following its recent update to WSTDA T-1, Recommended Standard for Synthetic Web Tie Downs, and is also working with the Legal Resource Committee to review the Tie Down Warning Labels and Tie Down Safety Bulletins for possible updates.

An ad hoc subcommittee has been formed to develop a new recommended standard for interior cargo securement, focusing on logistic straps and beams as a starting point. Industry input for the development of this potential new publication is welcome.

The Committee will hold both a working session and an open forum discussion session during the 2016 Fall Meeting in Chicago. Initial topics to be discussed include industry practices surrounding the re-use and repainting of hardware, and competing products to web tie downs. All attendees are invited to recommend topics for the Tie Down discussion forum by submitting their ideas in an online survey found here.
