WSTDA 2016 Annual Meeting Recap

WSTDA gathered on the Riverwalk in historic San Antonio for the 2016 Annual Meeting this past May. The meeting provided educational and networking opportunities, participation in committee meetings, and the opportunity to explore the beautiful city of San Antonio.

During the Annual Meeting General Session, President Jeff Iden recognized new member JooYeoung Industry Co., Ltd. and ten first-time attendees including Roddy Rossborough, Ace Industries, Inc./Stren-Flex; Greg Kauffman, ANCRA International; Normand Laliberte, Ben-Mor Cables/Sling Tech; Dale Perry, Filtec Precise; Jimmy Park, JooYeong Industry Co.; Megan Sweeney, Quality Chain Corp.; Simon Cha and Brian Hyun, Samhaw Sling; David Urlaub, US Cargo Control; and Bradley McCrary, William Barnet and Son.

Iden also thanked and recognized the 2016 Annual Meeting Sponsors: Gold Sponsor Southern Weaving Company; Bronze Sponsor Belt-Tech Products Inc., Welcome Reception Sponsor Ribbon Webbing, and Badge Lanyard Sponsor Murdock Webbing Co.

Liaison Reports provided updates on the activities of allied organizations including CVSA, AWRF, Cordage Institute, ASME B.30.9, ACRP, and an update on international activities. Elections were also held during the General Session, installing the new Board of Directors for the 2016-2018 term.

The WSTDA Technical Committees made progress on new Recommended Standards development, and review and updating of existing Recommended Standards, including the new RS1-HP (high performance yarn roundslings) and T-2 (synthetic web tie down Operating & Inspection manual), as well as discussions on recently completed technical testing programs and new proposed testing programs.

The Annual Meeting educational session showcased F&T La-SiSe Institute, a unique research facility, training academy and outdoor research lab opened in 2014 by Dolezych, WSTDA member Doleco USA’s German headquarters. Its work in load securement testing and training and original research supports its objective, which is to increase traffic safety by road, rail, waterway and air, and improve protection for employees. The team from Doleco USA and Dolezych including Ralph Abato, Karl Keisewitt and Tim Dolezych presented great visuals during their overview and discussion of the research and testing performed.

Networking is always an important part of WSTDA’s meetings, and the 2016 Annual was no exception. Capping off the event was the annual banquet, which honored and celebrated the many volunteers who perform the work of the organization on behalf of the industry.
