WSTDA 2016 Fall Meeting
October 2-6, 2016 • Hotel Chicago • Chicago, IL

The 2016 WSTDA Fall Meeting schedule features opportunities for industry education, networking, and discussions on technical issues; Technical Committees will also work on recommended standards review and development. Hosted at the Hotel Chicago in a central downtown location, the hotel is offering special WSTDA group room rates, putting WSTDA attendees in the center of all that Chicago has to offer.

  • WSTDA’s four Technical Committees will each hold working sessions, to drive current projects such as WSTDA Recommended Standards reviews, and Discussion Forums, where attendees have the opportunity to submit discussion topics in advance.

  • An Educational Session will feature a presentation by Bradley D. Closson, chair of the ASME B30 Committee and a mechanical engineer with over 30 years’ experience in material handling operations. Closson will provide invaluable information for manufacturers, should they find their products are involved in an accident and therefore expose them to liability issues.

  • Networking… during the interactive Discussion Forums, open Technical Committee meetings, and social events after busy days of programming. A special cocktail cruise showcasing Chicago’s legendary architecture, while navigating through the heart of the city on all three branches of the Chicago River, will offer even more networking—all included in the registration fee.

Hotel reservations at the special WSTDA group rate must be made no later than 5:00 PM Eastern on September 11, 2016 or when the group room block fills, whichever comes first. Discounted registration ends September 2, after which registration fees increase.

WSTDA 2016-2017 Scholarship Program Awards Two Education Grants

WSTDA’s Scholarship Program, launched in 2013 and promoted widely to qualified WSTDA-member employees and their legal dependents, attracted nearly 30 applicants who competed for two merit-based awards of $3,000 each to help with tuition and educational expenses for attendance at a qualified college or university.

The 2016-2017 Scholarship recipients are:

Andrew T. Conley, an April 2016 graduate of Michigan Technological University with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, who is now pursuing a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Andrew earned a 3.98 GPA while at Michigan Tech, and also completed several internships, one in the role of project manager of a team of 50+ engineers working to design, build, and test a functioning satellite for launch into space on a Department of Defense rocket. Andrew was sponsored by his father, Bill Conley, who works in Internet Sales at Wiscolift, Inc. Andrew was also a 2014-2015 WSTDA Scholarship Program grant recipient.

Following her anticipated 2017 graduation, she plans to pursue a Master’s in Supply Chain Management after working in industry for a few years. Judy was sponsored by her father, Yan Wei, Division Controller for Columbus McKinnon Corporation.
