WSTDA Recommended Standards and Test Methods

Web Sling & Tie Down Association has been recognized as a standards writing organization by the U.S. Department of Justice. WSTDA standards are voluntary and consensus standards; WSTDA will make no effort to enforce compliance with any of its standards, nor will it attempt to influence any governmental agency to adopt its standards as mandatory, although it will certainly cooperate with any governmental agencies seeking its assistance.

Recommended Standard for Synthetic Polyester Roundslings (RS-1)
Applies to roundslings made of polyester fibers used for the lifting, suspending, transporting, lowering, and handling of materials. It recommends construction, identification and marking of these roundslings. In addition, it provides sling capacity information and important practical advice on the use, maintenance and inspection of roundslings.

 

Recommended Standard Specification for High Performance Yarn (HPY) Roundslings (RS-1HP)
Applies to roundslings made of high performance yarn used for the lifting, suspending, transporting, lowering and other load handling under known conditions. It recommends construction, identification and marking of these roundslings. In addition, it provides sling capacity information and important practical advice on the use, maintenance and inspection of roundslings.

 

Recommended Standard for Winches Used With Synthetic Web Tie Downs (T-3)
Applies to winches designed to accommodate synthetic web tiedowns for the purpose of securing cargo. This standard recommends construction as well as identification andmarking of these winches. In addition, it gives important practical advice on the use, maintenance and inspection ofthese winches.

 

Recommended Standard for Synthetic Sewing Threads for Slings and Tie Downs (TH-1)
Applies to Synthetic Sewing Threads constructed from various synthetic fibers. This standard recommends construction as well as identification and testing of synthetic sewing threads used primarily in synthetic web slings, round slings and tie downs. In addition, it gives practical advice on selection and environmental considerations of these synthetic sewing threads.

 

Recommended Standard for Synthetic Web Slings (WS-1)
Applies to synthetic web slings. These slings are used for general lifting purposes (raising, lowering or suspending). This standard recommends construction, identification and marking of these slings. In addition, it gives rated capacity(s) (working load limit(s)) and important practical advice on the use, maintenance and inspection of these slings.

 

Recommended Standard for Synthetic Web Tie Downs (T-1)
Applies to web tie downs made of nylon or polyester fibers used for securing cargo. It recommends construction, identification and marking of these web tie downs. In addition, it provides tie down capacity information and important practical advice on the use, maintenance and inspection of web tie downs.

 

Recommended Standard for Synthetic Webbing for Slings (WB-1)
Applies to class 5 and class 7 synthetic webbing used in the manufacturing of synthetic web slings. This recommended standard recommends construction, identification and marking of class 5 and class 7 synthetic webbing.

 

Recommended Standard Specification for Synthetic Webbing Used For Tie Downs (T-4)
Applies to Nylon and Polyester synthetic webbing used in the manufacturing of synthetic web tie downs and recommends the construction, identification and marking of such webbings.

 

Recommended Standard for Load Binders Used with Chain Tie Downs (T-6)
Applies to load binders designed to accommodate chain tie downs for the purpose of securing cargo. This standard recommends construction as well as identification and marking of these load binders. In addition, it gives important practical advice on the use, maintenance and inspection of these binders.

 

Strength & Elongation Recommended Test Method for Sling & Tie Down Webbing (TM-1)
Applies to the tensile strength and elongation test method for Sling and Tie Down Webbing. It recommends the equipment and method for testing widths up through 12 inches. This standard is modeled after Federal Test Method Standard No. 191A, Method 4108; the original federal standard was inactivated and is no longer updated or revised by the U.S. government.
