Tie Down Technical Committee Report

By Karl-Heinz Keisewitt, Chair

In November 2005 the preceding Tie Down Committee meeting took place in Annapolis, Maryland. The discussion between the members was very inspiring.

The first point on the agenda was a discussion on how to actively promote the highlights of the 2005 revised WSTDA T1 Tie Down Standard, to introduce these new standard to as many end-users, law enforcement professionals and fabricators as possible. The decision was made, that an article about those highlights of the T1 will be written and forwarded to various trade publications for disclosure.

One participant of the meeting, Mr. Mooney of the CVSA, agreed to publish an article in his publication The Guardian.

The second point on the agenda was an interesting discussion about the “out of service” criteria. It was decided that the point of view of the WSTDA remains unchanged, with a zero-tolerance policy.

The third important point on the agenda was the review of the T3 Standard on “Winches.“ First changes have been discussed and are being considered. During the debriefing session of the previous meeting the decision was made that a subcommittee, consisting of Ken Webb, Ralph Abato, Jim Calico and Karl Keisewitt will revise the T3 Standard, which will be presented for adoption by the Tie Down Committee at the upcoming meeting in San Francisco.

Under New Business we discussed whether each end of two-parted tie-downs have to be marked with a tag.

At our next meeting in San Francisco we want to bring the review of the T3 Standard to an end and start with the review of the following T4 Standard.

We want to thank all of those who worked so effectively on the standards and we are sure that the upcoming meeting in May will also be a very effective one.
