Roundsling Technical Committee

The new RS1 Roundsling Standard for Polyester Roundslings is now in print, and WSTDA members should have received a mailed copy. As part of the last stage of the development process, committee discussions were held last fall to address responses to a call for public comments to the proposed standard. These discussions were highly productive, with the committee covering a broad range of topics, and the group was able to reach a consensus in resolving each issue. Thank all of you who provided comments and contributed to the process of addressing all of the important changes to the document.

Now that the RS1 Standard Specification is complete the committee will turn its attention to numerous other work topics, including:

Our first order of business with concern the updating of other supporting literature to reflect the recent RS1 changes, including label and instruction information. This work will tie in with the work being performed by the Legal Resource Committee.
We will reinitiate the development of a proposed Standard Specification for roundslings made from high modulus materials.
And the committee will assess whether we want to take on any of whole host of other possible future work topics, possibly including:
- A review of environment effects ranging from an exposure to frozen conditions to the effects of sunlight or other forms of UV light exposure.
- Considering the effects of connection hardware size and contacting edges on high modulus type roundslings
- Sling cleaning methods
- Roundsling Repair procedures
- Verification of the effect of choker hitch and choker hitch angles.
