WSTDA 2007 Annual Meeting

Roundsling Committee Report

By Greg Babinchak, Roundsling Committee Chairman

Members of the roundsling committee are currently in the midst of considering how best to weigh evidence put upon them in the form of test results that were generated by the edge test program that is currently being managed by the testing committee. As should have been expected from a test program that had never before been completed, some unexpected inconsistencies have surfaced. The committee members are now forced to show the prowess of the human mind over that of the most powerful computer and exercise judgment in establishing some new product use guidelines.

I am enlightened that the work being undertaken by WSTDA is exhibiting a positive influence on the industry in the form of continually improved, standardized guidelines. Whether new recommendations addressing the use of roundslings around edges are completed this year or next, they will serve noticeable benefit to both users and manufacturers of roundslings.

This information will hopefully be completed in time to be included within an update to WSTDA RS1 Standard Specification for roundslings that is now under way. Please stay tuned.
