Testing Committee ReportBy Charles Lucas, Chair The committee welcomes Greg Pilgrim of Murdoch as a new number. Greg will replace John Smith, who has been a valuable asset for many years. The Committee would like to thank John for all the hard work and dedication he has contributed to WSTDA and, in particular, the Testing Committee. AWRF has just completed the second phase of their edge cut tests on slings instead of webbing. We had been asked to share in the cost of this phase of the testing but chose not to at this time. The AWRF Web Sling Committee is going to analyze the data and publish the results for the AWRF members. We may be asked to change our Web Sling Standard and warnings as a result of these tests. AWRF also took videos of the break of each type of cut depth, material and number of plies which revealed some unexpected characteristics of webbing failure. The revision of the graphs on the 1981 UV and Tidal Immersion Study was rejected by the Board of Directors, because the process used to publish the data did not present crisp sharp images of the graphs. The original graphs have been redone in Excel to eliminate the hazy lines on the graphs. The new publication will be available in the coming weeks. The Testing Committee is working on a new graphical report of the 2003 UV Study. The new graphs will compare the loss of strength to the rated capacity. The Committee hopes to have these graphs complete in time for the Board of Directors to review this spring. These graphs will also be produced in Excel to improve the quality of the publication. Fred Ambli and Charles Lucas were assigned a project to see if they should develop a nomogram showing the relationship of pin size to working load limit. If such a nomogram can be developed it will be presented to the Testing Committee and the Board of Directors for approval.
