WSTDA 2005 Annual Meeting

Roundsling Technical Committee Report

By Greg Babinchak, Chair

Roundslings have been proving their value in the domestic rigging market for 25 years. Their penetration into the sling market has been incredible. Many riggers who once questioned their design are now preaching their merits.

While the understanding of their value is no longer in its infancy, and while the age of the U.S. roundsling is maturing, we continue to learn about their limitations and modify recommended operating practices.

At the last committee meeting, information was presented that reinforced the suitability of using roundslings in one form of an adjusting hitch in order to allow adjustment of sling length during use. An updated printing of the roundsling mini-manual will be available shortly, which includes several revisions affecting recommended operating practices. Upcoming topics of attention are likely to address sling repair, sling inspection, including a proposed inspection form, as well as recommendations related to properly protecting roundslings during use.
