Web Sling Technical Committee Report

On behalf of this committee , I am pleased to announce that the review of the Web Sling Standard (WSTDA-W1) has been completed and has been approved by the Board of Directors for publication. The document shall be available in printed form soon.

This is a document of which we can be proud. In it's accepted form it is a result of hard and diligent work from the members of this association, as well as some review and comments by respected organizations and individuals within our industry.

With this standard off the table, the Committee will now concern itself with reviewing the Synthetic Webbing for Slings Standard (WSTDA-WS-3), continue to work with the Round Sling and Tie Down Committees on keeping the warning sheets consistent, and address the question of quantitative criteria for the removal of web slings from service.

This committee will be seeking more representation from the weaving industry to address the Webbing for Slings Standard with expertise. In addition, I'm planning on forming a sub-committee that will concentrate on the quantitative criteria for removal issues. This issue presents a major undertaking in itself. There are many elements of the equation that need to be discussed and examined. A close coordination with our Testing Committee must be established, as many of the unanswered questions will need objective evidence in the form of documented testing.
