WSTDA 2009 Fall  Meeting

Load Securement Technical Committee Report

By Karl-Heinz Keisewitt, Chair

Thanks to each member of the Load Securement Technical Committee. Everybody did an excellent job during our last meeting in Asheville. We came together several times in our ad hoc committees before, during, and after our main load securement session. We pushed through two main drafts. The first one is the draft for our new standard for load binders and chains. Thanks to Lorin Stolin, who will now be chairing this ad hoc committee; and to Tom Wynn, Charles Lucas, and Brian Todd of NACM, who will also be working on this standard.

The second ad hoc committee created new drafts for our interior van securement products standard (WSTDA T-5). This standard includes products like synthetic web straps, logistic tracks, pan-fittings, beams, bars, beam sockets and cargo friction bars. Creating new standards for these products is a big challenge, and it will take a certain amount of time and effort to get this done. The variety of products is enormous and sometimes testing procedures have to be defined as well. However, I am sure that with the expertise of our Load Securement Committee members we can also handle this.

Safe journeys and see you in Seattle, Washington!
