WSTDA 2008 Fall Meeting |
Web Sling
Committee Report
By
Shaun Glass,
Web Sling Committee Chairman
Newport, Rhode Island is a lovely place
where the sea calls fishermen, sailing enthusiasts, and career military
naval persons to her open arms everyday. This lovely picture of a
sailing town was the scene of a changing of the helm with Capt. Shaun
Glass assuming command and making outgoing Capt. Steve Schroeder walk
the plank. After we fished Steve out of the water he asked to stay on
the web committee and we are happy to have him.
It is not all fun and games with the Web Sling Committee and we did do a
bit of business in Newport. We are still awaiting the mock-up draft of
the pocket cards which we are looking forward to seeing and getting
completed so we can provide this useful information to the public.
Another item on the agenda is the web sling video/DVD. Upon review of
the old video and comments from the committee it looks like we are going
to start from scratch because the info is outdated and editing as much
as we wanted we might as well start fresh. Bob Jasany has been working
with our old contacts that did our first video but they longer have the
resources to help us anymore but are willing to help us find a contact
at a production company. Bob thanks for all the work so far.
The Web Sling Warning Sheet Para 3 and 4 under Sunlight/UV Exposure
Limits has been requested to be put back to the Committee for discussion
and review on the retirement timelines for the different type of fibers.
This topic occupied the majority of time and I think it is worth
reviewing. It is important to get the retirement timelines correct based
on the studies done by the WSTDA.
New items we are going to look at during the next meeting are the
recommended diameters for web slings, and we are continuing to work with
Mike Gelskey and the Legal Resource Committee in their quest to complete
the warnings review process with ASE.
We have some interesting topics ahead of us and I look forward to
working with the committee members in tackling all the issues this
industry presents to us. Also in all seriousness I would like to thank
Steve for his hard work and his continued dedication to the WSTDA. This
is all for now. Hope to see you all in St Louis.
