WSTDA 2007 Fall Meeting

Tie Down Committee Report

By Karl Keisewitt, Tie Down Committee Chairman

As our president, Mr. John Walsh, said “Extraordinary people are doing extraordinary things." He said this when he heard that two ad-hoc committees decided to meet on a Saturday, one day before our last meeting in Scottsdale, Arizona. This was the initial push to renew our WSTDA-T4 Webbing for Tie Downs standard and to create our new standard for non-synthetic cargo control equipment. During our very productive Tie Down Committee session we discussed the first results of these ad-hoc committee meetings. Before that Becky Thiessen presented the results of another ad-hoc committee. The Mini-Manual (T2) is right on track, based on which our new Out of Service brochure and poster will be developed very soon.

Finally, Ralph Abato reviewed the highlights of the changes that came into effect in June, 2006 with the FMCSA Ruling. In addition to these projects the Tie Down Committee intends to create a new standard for interior van lashing. During our next meeting in Las Vegas we want to gather ideas for relevant components and sections. I am sure that once again this will be a successful meeting. “Extraordinary people are doing extraordinary things.....“

See you in Las Vegas!
