Tiedown Technical Committee Report

In May 2005 we had an excellent meeting in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada.

Following several preliminary drafts, e-mails, meetings and discussions, the final draft of the WSTDA-T1 tiedown standard went out for public review. The resulting comments were discussed and we made some corrections to the wording of the standard. The second revision then passed the board of directors and the printed version is now available. WSTDA-T1 was first published in 1991, with the first revised version in 1998. This second revised version is now an extremely useful source of information and help for anybody working in the tiedown or cargo business, including as it does many important developments for producers and users of synthetic tiedowns. One more step towards a safer life. Many thanks to all those who worked very hard and spent time on this revision!

The next project is the review of WSTDA-T3 (winches). Ralph Abato of Ancra and Ken Webb of Pacific Cargo gave the committee members a first overview. We decided not to include other hardware components in T3. Initial suggestions were submitted and are now circulating among the committee members for comment and review. At the next meeting in November, to be held in Annapolis, Maryland, we will discuss all of these proposed changes. Following on from the very effective work on T1, I am sure we will again enjoy an extremely successful meeting.
