Web Sling Technical Committee ReportBy Fred Ambli, Chair First, I would like to thank Mr. Porter, the past Chairman of the Web Sling Technical Committee, for getting the Standard (WS-1) to publication. Mr. Porter contributed a great deal of time and effort in this endeavor and should be complimented on his fine work. We had a very productive meeting in San Diego. I proposed approximately seven issues that the Web Sling Technical Committee needs to address in the near future. Since the meeting, I circulated e-mails to committee members requesting their input on each of these proposed issues. At this writing, I have not received replies from everyone. This has been an exceptionally busy summer for me, but I will initiate action be taken on the issues that are before the committee. As Web Sling Technical Committee Chair, I am making a formal request to the Board for testing on the D/d ratios for flat web slings. Our Chair of the Testing Committee will have to wrestle with this issue in the near future, and hopefully, can return to the Web Sling Committee with a statement for our Standard. We are currently in the process of updating our pocket manual, and will be including all of the new data in this manual. Hopefully, we should have it ready for review at our meeting in Washington, DC. I believe the biggest problem is the relative physical size and appearance of the manual. We have an ongoing discussion as to whether it should remain in the size of a pocket manual or be enlarged to our membership booklet size of 5” x 8” As always, we welcome anything that should be addressed in our committee. If you have any comments or new information that we should discuss, I would greatly appreciate your input. |
