WSTDA Mid-Year Conference

WSTDA Membership Value Increases

By Becky Thiessen, WSTDA President

It seems more difficult to write an article for an award winning newsletter. I am so proud to be part of such a great organization that has been willing and able to embrace new ideas. Many thanks to the staff of KSG for taking our newsletter from paper to excellence!

For the last several years WSTDA has focused on its members and the value the association provides to its greatest asset, its members. Now it is time to look beyond ourselves and reach deeper into our industry, economy, allies, and the liabilities we face as manufacturers.

Since we last met the Board has approved the formation of the WSTDA Legal Resource Committee (LRC). Driven by Chairman Gelskey, the LRC hopes to develop not just defensible warnings but a complete defensible warning system. We will hear more about the direction and goals of the LRC at our upcoming meeting. Members interested in serving on this committee should contact Chairman Gelskey directly.

I don’t think we can get through the week without talking about the economy, the cost of fuel, petroleum based products, steel and the battle between domestic and import. We had planned a speaker from the National Association of Manufacturers to meet with us to discuss the topic of manufacturing going to China. I regret that with our meeting so close to the Presidential election we were unable to guarantee his arrival. Every effort will be made to schedule his presentation in the future.

We have been making every effort to strengthen our relationships with several related associations. We were asked and agreed to be a “partner” for the International Fabric Association’s upcoming Expo in Pittsburgh. We continue to work closely with related sling and tie down groups and we are committed to a greater relationship with AWRF.

We have a strong agenda planned for our mid-year meeting in Washington DC. I encourage every member of WSTDA to attend the meeting and be part of the decisions that shape our future. The best investment of your membership is active participation. Safe travels to everyone!
